I went hunting yesterday and pulled up along side my buddy and turned off my truck to talk with him. I went to restart the truck and it made a ticking sound as it was turning over, but it started ok. I turned it back off and restarted with the same results.

I drove about 1/4 of a mile to our spot and turned it off. I thought I'd try it again to see what it would do. The truck wouldn't even turn over. I had all the dash lights and everything, but the truck wouldn't crank. I crawled under the truck and checked the starter. All wires were in tact. I jumped a wire from the hot wire to the ground on the starter and it would crank over and no ticking sound, but no start. (The key was in the on position). I went to the engine compartment and pulled up on the fuel shutoff silenoid, crawled back under the truck, jumped the wires again and the rig fired right up.

Racking my brain where my problem is. I thought I had the starter contact problem, but would this cause my fuel shutoff silenoid to stop working? I drove it home, got in the driveway and turned it off. It started right up, but still had a tick, tick, tick as I cranked it over.

Gotta have my rig to get to work. Any help is appreciated.

The fuel solenoid will NOT pull up in the run position of the ignition key. It has to be turned to the start position to pull it up.

It probably is a starter contact problem.
