Truck always runs great and starts but this morning it won't start.

I checked the battery connections: all are tight

Checked the fuses: all are ok (did find I had a 40 amp trailer that was blown) I guess I will have to get a new one of those eventually);)

I can hear the lift pump make its little noise, as always, before cranking but soon as I turn the key to engage the starter nothing.

I looked on Fritz site and found a TSB for 2K trucks but was unable to find a fuse labeled 20 amp starter relay. I did find a relay that is labeled starter relay and swapped that out with another relay to no avail. :( I did find a 20 amp fuse labeled start sol but that fuse was OK.

Any other suggestions?

Check connections on starter?

Thanks for any inputs.

I had this problem as well a couple months back. Turned out to be a bad battery. Had enough juice in the system to run the lift pump, even turn on the interior lights, but not enough to crank. This was on the original 3 yr old OEM batteries.

Ended up replacing both.

Just a thought.

Both of your batts. show 12 volts? I was wondering this myself but have yet to put them on a batt. tester.

Thank you.

Up date: starter bad. I took it apart and the contacts were alright and the plunger seemed ok as well.

NAPA put it on their tester and it failed.

$179 rebuild from NAPA

$475 Dodge

Still awaiting Cummins price: closed on the 24th of Dec.

Local Case IH dealer didn't have one in stock and his price was higher then the rebuild from Napa.

Looks like Saturday it will be running again.

Oh well:(

Merry Christmas to everyone, god bless.
