After a trip to the local grocery store, came back to the truck and noticed the key fob wouldn't work. After opening the truck I found that there was nothing when I tried to start the truck. Not a thing, So I opened the door to get out and check the batteries, and I noticed an obnoxious clicking coming from the seatbelts buried in the seat, which locked the mechanism, also something in the steering column started clicking as well. At this point no dome lights, and the door would lock by the switch every third time. When I hit the fourway flasher switch, it sounded like I had just one the jackpot at a Vegas casino. If I advance the ignition to the on position the truck ceases to sound like r2-d2. Needless to say I have no idea what the problem could be I guess I'll start with the batteries followed by the alternator... . anybody have any ideas? Thanks- Matt

Fill out your signature as to year, model and transmission, including any mods that you have.

I'ts possible that when you got out of the truck to go in the store, you may not have completely turned off the ignition - it might be getting worn out.

If you have a tilt steering, there has been reported problems with those wearing through the wire harness for the ignition, or pulling wires loose.

Batteries could be on that fine edge of not having enough "umph" left in them.

Might even be something as simple as a loose ground.

Another possibility

Being it was 19 degrees out there yesterday I would bet thyat your allready weak or even dead batteries either had One freeze or even both. For you to come out and have this happen all of a sudded sounds just like a freezing battery. Are they OEM 1999 batts? See if cleaning the connections help. But also look down the sides of the batteries. If they are bulged out on the sides that may be a sign of a frozen battery.

same happened to my dads 01 6spd HO had truck running, turned off, went to start about 10 min later completely dead. tryed to jump with mine , when we hooked up cables smoke started coming up from under drivers batt. found heater grid relays melted . had to change both batt, heater grid, relays and wiring
