Archived No Steering/Brakes after P/S pump mod

I did the powersterering pump mods as described in this thread... ...

At first the mod worked great for the first 2-3 min. and then no steering and no brakes. I checked the fluid and it was real foamy. I did a complete drain buy blowing our the lines from the pressure hose with the return hoses disconnected. After replacing the fluid I started the truck and let it run for a few seconds and toped of the fuid again. Did this 4 times to make sure I had sucked in no air and what do you know I have foamy fluid again and no P/S or P/B. I can see the fluid moving in the pump.



What do I do?

try this

let the foam settle. (could take quite awhile)

then put jack stands under the front axle. (you need the front tires off the ground)

Now start the truck and let it idle for a bit.

If there's no foam you can slowly turn the wheels from left to right.



Other than that you may have a small air leak in one of your return lines?

Did you change out the pump/fluid or just take out the screen/regulator?

I would go back over what you did to make sure you got everything in correct, if the suggestion that San Felipe Bob made doesn't work.

You need to turn the wheels from lock to lock to purge all the air out and continually topping off the fluid any time you replace any component in the system. The foam indicates that there is still air in the system.

I changed out the fulid and cleaned the screen, enlarged the main body orifice, and shimed the small spring in the screen/regulator assy.



I have truned the wheels lock to lock several times topping off the fluid as needed. I am beginning to think that I may have damaged he pump itself with low fluid level at inital startup.



I am going to talk to Ken Imler at Imler Diesel Performance in Sacramento Ca tomorrow.



Hopefully he can give me an answer.

I hate not having my truck. I am now driving the spare car a Saturn

I had a airlock in the new pump I put on my 95. I tried for a long time to purge the air with no results. I had to crack the pressure line going to the steering gear box to start purging the air.
