No tachometer on mid-90's F150?

A neighbor of mine is selling his mid-90's ford F150. its a 5 spd manual and i noticed that it doesnt apear to have a tachometer. Is this normal in these trucks especially a manual? Also, could one be added relativly simply? (excuse the poor grammar, didnt now proper fraising )

It was an option back then. Neither my 1990 nor 1993 F150s had one (bought off the lot).

I have a 95 F-150 5 speed. No tach. Its normal, though I see a lot of autos with a tach. Why???? Anyways I installed a tach. They are easy to hook up. All you are doing is tapping into a wire that runs by the distributor. If you buy it let me know and I'll go look up what wire it is for you.

I had a ford in the late 80's and it too did not have a tach. The tach can be added by adding a circuit board to the back of the instrament panel. It is flexable and has the circuit for the tach on it. Then buy a tach guage and put it in the panel. Ta Da. you are done.

JG to hook a tach there is a yellow wire you need to tap. I've got pics (not sure how to load them onto the thread, can someone help me or I can email them to you if you PM me). Above the drivers side valve cover there are two grey plug connections that plug in towards the firewall. You want the plug that has room for four wires (mine only has two running into it) this plug is the one farthest to the drivers side. The yellow wire will be the one on the left side of the plug (facing the firewall). Let me know if I can help anymore.

well gentlemen, i took the truck on a test drive today and was very pleased. It is a 1994 F150 XLT 302 ci 5. 0 lt. V8, 5 spd manual, automatic 4x4, extended cab, shortbed. It has 202,000 miles on it. He is the origional owner and has changed the oil religiously every 3k. He has recipts for work done aswell, (clutch, front end balljoints, etc) He was origionally asking $4,600, but brought it down to $3,800. The blue book, and the edmunds, for that exact truck and mileage, is about $1,900. After looking at some others like it online to truely determine the market i have come to the conclusion that i will offer him $2,600 for it. The truck ran well, shifted through all gears smoothly, 4x4 works fine (all ranges). It seems to be a sound rig. does my approach on the price sound wise? also do you think he will go for it?



I told him i would let him know yes/no on friday. I will make the offer then. This fella lives right up the street from me and i have seen this truck as long as i can remeber, he has taken good care of it.

Book on mine (looking to sell it this fall) is about 4k. Those 302s are good runners. Parts are common to do an overhaul if needed. Those Ford TTB front ends are terrible though. Fords attempt at a solid axel that rides like IFS. To have the front end rebuilt by a good shop is quite spendy. To do it on your own takes a fair amount of time and patience. I guess what I'm saying is that 2,600 bucks sounds spot on. 3,800 is way to steep unless he's going to keep doing your oil changes for you.
