On the way to work today the voltage gauge went to 0 and the Check Gauges light came on. There was no previous indication that anything was wrong (weak battery, dim lights, etc. ) I turned off all of the electric items I could and drove the remaining 3 miles to work.

Can anybody tell me if I need to have the truck towed in?

Also, can I expect the batteries to start the truck later today? How long will I be able to start the truck w/ no charge coming in?

I'll be calling the dealer as soon as I send this.

Thanks.

Sleepy:

My truck did this once too. Drove home right away to figure it out. Got home looked for loose wires etc didn't find anything apparent so I started the truck back up and no more problem. That was about 50k ago and hasn't done it since. I think several members have experienced the same issue and upon restart no more problem.

I have had this problem a few times. Luckily, I have a 2m radio that also checks voltage, and it showed 12+ volts flowing. Go to dodgeram.org and search for this. It is common, but not common enough to have it happen when the dealer is watching... ... :-{}

Just realize that it is the gauge, and not the alternator, that stopped working briefly.
