Just got the truck back from having the lube changed in the front and rear diff and when pulling out of the ***** dealership I got a clunk sound out of the rear like the limmited slip was not working... now I get a grinding sound when I start? What would cause that????
I'd try to verify with the people that did the work if they put the limited slip additive in. If not then get some and add it, most likely if your truck was fine when you took it in then that's all it needs.
Yep there's no friction modifier required for the AAM axles.
I would check to see if they put any fluid in the differential. If you had no strange noises from the diff before then it very well could be running without fluid.
I took it in and they added friction modifier... runs fine now... . I specifically asked them if they were using the correct lube because I understood that the new ones did not need the friction modifier... but they repeatedly told me they did need it and put it in and it now works fine... . curious
They told me if it had no fluid it would have frozen up long ago... been running it for 4 days like that... up to 80 MPH...
Got my 2004 serviced last week and they pointed out that they had put in new lube and friction modifier. Guess they do require it.
Also -- a guy I work with is having rear end noises that the dealer cannot seem to duplicate in the shop. They mentioned that they may want to change the fluid out and make sure that it has friction modifier in it. He only has 11k on his truck and doesn't haul.
