noise filter for transmission - what does it do?

i know it is supposed to help out the transmission, but what problems do they solve. My truck shifts, accelerates, and rides nice. Will a noise filter make it even better?

my understanding is it primarily fixes the random tc lock/unlock problem,thats all ive heard on that.
