I pulled my 20ft utility trailer loaded with about 5000 lbs. , back from Louisiana Wednesday and Thursday. While pulling off from a traffic light close to the point of origin, I heard a noise that sounded to me like a U-joint. It would only make the noise when I was starting off from a complete stop and would stop making the noise after reaching about 15 mph. I have pulled this trailer loaded one other time over the same distance and heard the noise once. I never heard anything abnormal while the trailer was empty from MT to LA.

I inspected the driveshaft this a. m. after disconnecting the trailer and can't find anything out of the norm. I drove the truck alittle and no longer hear the noise. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Sort of sounds like you're in the early stages of a dry u joint.

I had a very simular sort of noise last summer, then a slight vibration at road speed.

Turned out the one cup on the rear joint was dry, the others fine . The joint had a grease fitting , and was greased often, guess that side must have had a plugged hole or something.

Quick fit and it's good to go !!!!
