My 3500 long bed has a loud noise when you go over a sharp bump in the road, this is when it's empty, it sound like the tailgate is banging around, I checked the spare tire, I don't think that is the problem, I sort of sounds like something in the bed is bouncing around, but its empty, also when I walk in the bed, you can feel the bed give a little, and it has a metal to metal sound like the sheet metal is bottoming out on a support, I think the bed metal is a little thin.

I don't think that is whats happening. Mine does it unloaded(and loaded) and worse in cold temps. Shot some PB Balster between the leafs and it went away. Someone else got some lube bewteen theirs and cured it also.

Do you have to unload the springs before doing this? Or just spray the stuff in there? I could give 'em a good coat of white lithium grease...

It seems to be the overloads slapping the bump stops. Every time mine does this, the dust on the springs is cleaned off right where the rubber bumpers make contact. Haven't tried the lube thing. Might have to give that a shot.
