Codes on TST CR boxes

Boost Elbow

I have put about 500miles on my TST equipped truck now and am having several problems that I wanted to have addressed.

1. The box continually throws codes (P0336, P0606, P0341)

2. When decelerating, there is a SIGNIFICANT "knock" that comes from the drivers side of the engine compartment. This noise is developed at power level 2 and above. Has anyone else had these problems??

I love the power I can make, but it's not worth losing an engine or CP3 for. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I believe the knock that you hear is the box changing the 3 pulses per injection stroke that the engine uses. The codes are wierd-I have told TST about them also. I just get the 0336 and 0341 codes. My check engine light has gone off after about 3 days and not come back on. I need to clear those codes and see if they come back. My fuel mileage is getting even better with each tank after the TST instal. I am getting 1. 8 more mpg now. I guess after 2000miles I am not hot rodding it as much. :D

Thanks for the reply Bill,

I was thinking that the knock had to do with the timing change, but it sure doesn't sound good. Does your box do the same to your truck?

The knock isn't something that is barely there, it is significant. It is accompanied by a slight "surge" in the truck:confused:

I have spoken with Mark, and he said he hasn't heard of anything like this yet.

I do believe I am to the point of trying to exchange boxes or just remove it completely.

Lonestar i would pull that thing outta my truck faster than you can say "defect". I would get Mark to send you another one, unless your'e a gambling man. ;)

I have the PMCR box installed and I don't get the knocking noise you are describing. I have noticed a change in the sound of the engine, but I assumed that was due to the timing change. I do get the annoying MIL light with the corresponding P0336 code.

Maybe, I will wait for the edge Juice to come out. It sure seems like the customers are still guinea pigs for the Powermax. Maybe this is why Edge is taking so long??? I have a PMCR on order but I might change my mind if things don't look better. :(

what if, and i mean "if" --- edge never did come out with a box??

seriously, they have had since december 02 = the first of the common rails --- and still not a working box? And now with the "600" out, could we as "the old common rail pre-600" be skipped over?

ps. code 0336 - is that not bank 1 or 2 system high or low voltage?

I may have answered my own question Code P0336 is crank position sensor ( why is Tst box tripping this code?)

And just got off phone with Edge and they will not give date for new box but will be good when it happens!

More then just different electronics. I think if you do a search on here theres a write up on it in regards to the changes.

I recall mention of a few things to do with the engines' hard parts.

I have already disconnected the box. I tried getting in touch with Mark today, but he was on a tour of the cummins plant when I called. I will get in touch with him Monday and get this worked out. If the knock dissapears, this is going to be an awesome box, but there are so many ifs right now that I may just get my money back and wait for Edge... we'll see.

I think TST has found some quirks they will iron out. I'm not too worried. I'm confident the guys at TST will treat me fairly. It's tough to be patient -- especially after getting a TASTE! But I don't see the difference between throwin' in the towel because of a couple quirks -- then waiting on someone else; or just being a little patient with what's there. It's still a wait.

TST tackled a huge task and as with any massive engineering undertaking there's been some rough patches. I'm an engineer; I understand that. The patience thing is something I tend to run short on!!!! They could have rolled out a rail pressure increasing box the day after the 3rd Gens were out. Nevertheless; think I'll stick with the company that had the balls to tackle doing it the right way the first time and stick with them despite some bumps in the road. 100% my own opinion driven probably in large part by history. What got me into Diesel performance in the first place was the utterly total depression I was in with my "gutless" 98. 5. Talked to Mark on the phone a-lot back then (1998) and when TST came out with their reprogram (remember that 'old-timers'?) and then the box it was salvation! So; TST doesn't toot their horn like others but fact is they were/are first when it comes to engineering things the right way. Then others copy. It's curious to me that all the competitors start rolling out their boxes similar to TSTs right after TSTs comes out. I'm in the engineering technology business but you don't have to be to know what that's all about.

That said; there are some dern good Diesel performance companies out there so don't go ballistic and think I'm slamming them. Competition is good... Very Good. For example; IMO the only reason we have a truck with fantastic brakes and steers straight is Ford started the "Heavy Duty" craze. Thank you Ford! Additionally; when the competition comes out with something better of-course you have to match to stay in business. The bar is raised for everyone that way -- all good for us consumers! But it's pretty obvious who had the smarts up-front.

Hey there Lonestar. With your setup of Stage 3's and the TST, are you monitoring fuel pressure? I see you have our pusher kit, but I'd be interested in knowing what the fuel pressure and EGT are doing.

What do you have for a turbo?

Big Mak, I agree with "just about" everything you said. All but the "right way the first time", and, "smarts up front". Look what Edge did for the bow tie group, and they have about the same setup we do. They did come out first with the pressure box, I'm not saying that is the "right way", but I've been running a Quadzilla 100hp pressure box for 80K now, and the only problem was a blown boost hose, and I've been using it hard, no drags or sled pulling, but lots of heavy towing. Edge is there, and been there, just doing more R & D, hopeing to avoid the problems that TST is having now. I would be a nervious wreck if I had a TST box out on the road towing, and having the problems they have! Especially not being a mechanic, and no knowledge like a lot of you on here have. I'll just wait impatiently, because my trk. is not a play toy, its a money maker! I didn't know anything about bombing till 00, and started with a Banks system, then found the TDR!:D Not putting anyone down here, just telling it the way I see it. I respect your opinion BM, just wanting to state mine, for what its worth. :)

Hey guys.

I founf that if you turn the box to 0 before you start the engine you do not get any codes.

I like the power i get with the PMCR, I have a 50 Pound gage and when I go WOT the gage goes all the way to 50 #s, Does that mean I'm getting more than 500 ponies. ? The only thing I dont like about the box know is that the engine stumbles once in a while . Excuse my langage, this is my first post and I'm not very good with computers. and the other thing is that im Mexican like all this nice trucks!!!!!

Msauceda

I don't understand that logic at all Big Mak.

You are basically saying that is acceptable for an aftermarket performance company to "test" it's creation on another mans $40K truck.

The company I'm going with is the one who "tests" on their own trucks and releases a fail safe product.

I'm in the manufacturing business, I don't get second chances ... ..... only doctors and lawyers do because they are only practicing!

Practice on somebody else, I aint been to a doctor since '86 and aint nobody practicing on my truck either!
