Noisy Brakes

Just trying to find out if we are the only ones? Since we picked up our 2014 ram 3500 whenever either of us steps on the brakes in forward or reverse, we definitely have noise, squeal, squeak, etc. It it not only annoying but embarrassing to pull into an RV park with a great looking RV and a beautiful looking truck to have it make so much noise. I was told by one dealer that "they all do that". I'm not ready to accept that yet. It is so sad to pay a good amount of money to not have it right. Chrysler should be ashamed of themselves.
So, does yours make noise? If it does did you find a fix for it? Thanks. Hugs, Di

If it's under 12 months / 12k miles.....take it back and demand some action.

Take it out on a deserted highway, from highway speed, jump on the brakes hard to almost stopped and repeat. Light braking will cause your brakes to glaze, especially new brakes. They can become glazed so bad that the only way to remove the glazing, is to replace the pads and have the rotors turned.

Dutch did to that after the 1st few thousand miles because we couldn't get the brakes to seat in. That did the trick for that so next time we aren't towing, he's agreed to try that again {with fingers crossed}
Truck is just over 12 months by 1 month but I've been complaining to every Dodge dealer we've been in {9}this last year. Same old run around and now of course it is over the year. I had been talking to the enhanced customer care department-who let everything to until the 12 month deadline passed and now am talking to the Investigation & Resolution department. Demanding they do the right thing for a product you shelled out hard money for labels you a "Hard ***" but going the nice route didn't get me anywhere. The enhanced CC department has been going to get me the information on giving me a new truck for over 3 weeks and calls to them for updates go un-returned. Hugs, Di

Mine does the same thing. Did so since day number one. I don't go easy on the brakes either.

I haven't seen that here in so Cal on the trucks. We do see it on all model when they are near the beach on the first few applications.

The calipers need to be lubricated on all mating surfaces with proper silicone grease along with lubing the caliper slide bolts.

Does anyone know, do Ram brake pads have an anti-squeal shim (or adhesive) on the back side of the brake pad?

If not, that could be one cause of squealing brakes.

Di, read on page 2 of this article, the section called "A Sticky Solution" in http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/maintenance/4317748-2.

He is talking about putting an adhesive layer between the back of the brake pad and the brake caliper to stop vibration between the brake pad and the caliper. That vibration can cause a squeal sound.

I remember (years ago) buying brake pads that included a package of "Disc Brake Quiet" that was to be smeared on the back of the brake pad, then let it dry before installing the brake pads. I thought better quality brake pads today had this Anti-Squeal layer already applied.

Di, any good auto technician can fix this. Your problem may be that Ram won't pay for the work, so the Service Adviser says "they all do that".

It may be better to pay yourself for a tech to fix it. It depends on your definition of "better".

A tech can remove the pads, apply "Disc Brake Quiet" to the back of the pads, and reinstall the pads. This is a good time to remove any glazing on the brake discs.

As mentioned above, there are other causes for squealing brakes. A good tech will know these other causes.

OEM pads usually have the backing material. I used to use "Permatex Disc Brake Quiet" years ago. The secret is letting it dry over night before reinstalling the pads. Most shops would never wait that long.

my 14 2500 rear brakes squeak. have since new. only under light brakeing. moderate or heavy brakeing its quiet. my brothers 12 ram 1500 does the same, so does pops 14 ram 1500. seams like a very common thing.

My 2012 dually rears have squealed since new. And still make noise after 135,000 miles.
Pads have a lot of material left, so will address this when the pads need replacing.

Di; front or back? do all the brakes squeal at the same time? On some after market replacements, front pads have a bevel on both leading and trailing edge to avoid creating noise. They claim its the abrupt square edge that cause the squeal. Like blowing on the edge of a sheet of paper. Big trucks squeal cause there brakes are out of adjustment, most times.
Like your other problem, hope you can get this one solved. Hate it when your told "they all do it". B---!!
