Noisy D-Max?

He he he. On www.pickuptrucks.com in the diesel engines forum comments and questions about noisy D-Max under load and at higher rpm's.



Golly gee Herb, they told me it would werk harder, longer and quieter than all the rest. I wunder whut hoppen?



Personally, I like hearing my CTD work. Lets me know that hamster is workin' for a living!

I haven't gone to the site and most likely won't , but if it has more noise, it probable has a box on it ( more timing. )

nah. no box there. if i read the right thread there. he was complaining about the clatter. he was driving 85mph turning 2700rpm iirc what he wrote. in the dmax, the pilot injection shuts down at 2500rpm, so it'll sound like a normal DI diesel engine above that rpm.

At 85mph, I'm turning about 2300rpm. It's nice to know that our engines don't have to "wind out" to produce!

the dmax is only avalable with 3. 73 gearing, and if the guy had stock tires under it, which are 245/75/16's, them be 30" tires... could make the difference imn rpm there,,.

It's common for the new "pilot injected" engines (including the 2003 Cummins common rail) to revert to standard (read "noisy") injection profiles under high RPM and/or heavy load. The "quiet" diesels are only quiet at idle and low rpm's/light loads.

All the noise from my engine just keeps me from trying to start my engine when it is running. If you ask your local Cummins shop, they will tell you they love replacing starters on the new B-series engines. They are so quiet, drivers are over-starting their engines or attempting to restart them because they can't hear them running.

Personally, give me an engine that will make my neighbors wet the bed when I drive up the street at 4:00AM because I love them that much. :-{}
