Could there be any performance advantages of a non-intercooled 5.9 over a intercooled engine?
I have an 89 non IC and I was wondering if there was any modes that could be made to peck the performance only in a non-IC engine besides adding an intercooler!
Key word is "only"; I'm aware of the fuel pump modes, just looking for something that might only be related to the non-IC engine.

Most mods are the same for both IC and non IC trucks Turbos can be a bit tough though but just because of the elbow on the compressor housing.
I want to build one using parts from here and my cartridge.

A cheaper way to go is an HX35 from a second gen. You have to get the right one though.

I purchased a HX35 turbo, with non wastegated 16 cm housing, but I lost out when I swapped out my 9mm injectors with new 7mm. I've made all the normal mods/upgrades on the pump, but my truck is still in the build process so I will not know what kind of numbers I'm putting up until I get her back on the road!

the 0CPL 0804 engines were by far the best! Beefier block, better injectors that flow more, etc. Add a HX35 for better EGTs and boost and you will have some fun with the pump. I am 350 HP on my stock injectors although I am heavily intercooled. :D Love these non IC engines. :)

"Better Injectors" That is what I'm finding out, should have keep my original 9MM injectors! I'm wondering if I should try to find a old set of 9mm, don't know if the 7 mm will be effective! BSchwarzli were you able to add an intercooler and keep your stock grill?

The 9mm injectors are like a performance 7mm injector. I don't know off the top of my head the flow spec's of the 9mms, but I am willing to bet they are close to a 50 HP 7mm injector. So to get a gain on a 7mm in place of your 9s, I would likely say 75-100 HP 7mms at minimum as funny as it sounds.

As for the grill, not without a lot of modification and even then I have yet to see one done that looked OK. As soon as you go to a IC, you either change to a 91-93 grill, or you get crafty and make your own as I did. Pics on the grill build are in this thread:

Nice! I had a chance about 4 months ago to purchase a tube grill that would have fit, but I wanted to stay with the stock look. Does anyone know where I could locate a set of the original 9mm injectors or maybe a good recommendation for a good 75 HP set of injectors (don't want smokers!)?

I would presume Cummins/Bosch would still have the 9mm available.

As for aftermarket, DDP I would recommend. Also Lucus PODs would also be an option many gen 1 guys have run. Keep in mind smokey is your adjustment of the pump for the most part. Have too much fuel screw and not enough turbo, that is what makes the smoke. Not so much what injector. Very important to match the air to the fuel. Most people think it is the injector that makes the smoke when reality is they slap a set of injectors on the engine and then it flows more fuel and they cry foul as it smokes. Sure, you change an injector and not your turbo (or at least your snail) and what did you think would happen? lol You have more fuel on the fire than air so it will smoke like a campfire.

If you want a set of Lucus POD injector's PM me their from a ic motor but I went to a 5x12 .but will make you a Killer Deal on them .
