Finished Finally!!!! Wow!!!!

I have a line on a Non-turbo 4BT...

What was the rated HP? Are there any known problems??

Would this make a good conversion into an older pound truck? I'm thinking my M37... which weighs 6000 pounds.

The ones I've seen in equipment were only about 85 hp or so. They can be turned up easy enough too.

About as dependable as our truck engines.

If you're not wanting to go fast on the road it should be ok. Takes more than 85hp to get 6k moving quick. ;)

Thanks... the stocker is only 78HP, so I'd have a major improvement!

Good deal, looks like I may know my next move!

I have repowered several Jeeps and K-5's over the years with 4B and 4BT engines. The 4B engines were nice fuel sippers, but they did smoke quite a bit, usually leading me to retrofit a turbo onto them. The last one I did ended up with a turbo and innercooler, it was in a K-5 1978 Blazer running Dana 60 axles and 35" tires. Mileage was in the mid 20's despite regularly beating on the truck and running topless.

If you can get the 4B in there and find you need more power, there is plenty left you can squeeze out of it with just fuel and injection timing before you result to turbos.

I'm trying to get back to a 4bt Cummins, NV4500 repower in a 2000 Tahoe, but time has been very very short lately. The Tahoe I was building template brackets off of ended up wrecked before I ever got the gasser pulled out. I'm back to looking for another rolling chassis again, hopefully one with a bad engine or transmission so it doesn't get driven until it's burning oil and blowing smoke :)
