New member with a problem! Anyone out there found metal flakes in their lube oil? An 01 with 105K 6spd @305 hp. This just showed up about 10-12K ago. No abnormal sounds, no smoke, good power and runs well. Uses no oil. Any ideas, suggestions? I am using a RACOR oil filter and clean the screen every other change. the flecks are nonferros. DC will do nothing to help or diagnos problem.

Welcome to the site and Happy New Years!

I would suggest getting an oil analysis done. You can get a kit from Genos or order one online from the analysis company of your choice.

I would hope that you are also running a standard spin on full flow oil filter (stock location) - if you can see metal flakes in a screen type Oberg filter - these are larger than 40 micron and may or may not be of significance.

how long have you owned the truck?

What mods have you done.

What have you changed or worked on the last 12,000 miles?

Could the flakes be coming from the filter itself from the install of fittings into a piece of aluminum?

Are their a lot of the flecks or jsut one of two?

Cheers,

I've had the truck since new and the filter's been on the truck since about 500 miles. There are quite a few flakes of varying sizes, the amount does not seem to change with each cleaning about an eighth of a tsp or so. Oil analysis says all is more or less normal. I've had this filter on two previous trucks with no probs, The screen is supposed to work better than a spin-off filter, down to smaller microns I think 6-8 or so. No major mods Dr. Performance stage III when it was new, K&N that's it. This is my 2nd DTC, 1st was a 1993 12V. tks for the help,
