I have just received my first truck with a HO Cummings diesel. The truck has 100 miles on it and I am leaving for a 6000 mile trip this week. I am told that there is no break in period for the engine but I am wondering if I should be having it serviced in any way (other than manufacturer recommendation) while on the road? I will have 5500lbs in the bed for the second half of the trip.

Congrats on your new adventure. Sorry I can't help you I'm still getting my feet wet with my 2018 Factory left over. And welcome to the forum..

Did you read the owner's manual?
I believe it says not to tow or haul anything for the first 500 miles, and to not drive the highway at any steady speed for that period too.
This is actually to break in the moving parts of the truck other than the engine, ie; trans, transfer case, diffs, etc.
But, I can tell you that on my truck, all of that only lasted 300 miles before I hooked my first trailer and headed out on the road for its first long trip.
605K miles on mine so far...
As to needed service before your trip, nothing other than standard checks, oil level, coolant level, etc.

That will be a good break-in for the truck.

As others have said, read the owners manual and ditch the G.

Welcome to TDR best place to learn about your Ram truck with Cummins engine, enjoy and drive for Million miles!;) The folks here are very knowledgeable.
