My last Cummins used about a quart of oil every 2000 miles until I towed heavy and had about 10,000 miles on it. After that it didn't use any between 3000 mile oil changes. My '05 came with the oil about 1/4 inch above the full mark on the dipstick. Now, after 1000+ miles, it's still about 1/4 inch above the full mark. It turned black of course but didn't go down any. Has this been the experience of others? I expected to burn a little oil with a new engine.

I picked up a 05 in may and it now has about 1,500 miles on it. The oil was also 1/4" above full and it has not used a drop during this time. My oil also turned black but no usage at all.

Some engines just don't really use any when new. Have run into that, most of the time, when getting new farm tractors (Primarially, John Deere, in this case. ).

My Ram has almost 198k on it, and still don't have to add hardly anything, most of the time between changes.

No complaints here. :D

my engine doesn't use much oil between my oil changes... i went 10k kilometers last change and i was still sitting at the full mark...
