Egts, most so far unloaded going up a steep but short hill around 25 mph 1000 degrees, transmission got to 200 in that time. Hill was maybe 1/4 mile long. At highway speeds in the mountains I can get 900 and 160. I am moving back to the east coast soon, should I be worried about these temps? Will be towing a 6x12 enclosed trailer and what ever will fit in the bed and cab. Whats the max sustained egt the CTD can hold?I know to back off the transmission by 200,anything to help bring these temps down a bit?Noticed the transmission cooler a the rear of the engine block, why is it there?

Fill out your sig. so the rest of us can see what you're driving.

Is your EGT Probe pre or post turbo? If pre turbo, temps are no problem at all.

Post turbo would be a little warm but probably not a problem if not maintained too long. Not lugging the engine will help with EGT.

You can keep transmission temps down by shifting down and keeping RPM up while TC is locked up. A lot more heat is generated when unlocked.

As to the cooler, knowing what year your truck is would help but you likely have 2 coolers, the other one in front of the radiator.

I think you're OK. I've heard that our trucks can handle up to 1400* pre-turbo for short intervals. Make sure you let 'er idle to cool down when stopping after one of those runs.

Try to keep your TC locked up without lugging too much by shifting down when needed and your transmission temps should be OK too.
