03 Durango Ignition Switch issues

I need some help diagnoising a problem with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The ABS light on the dash turns on and off intermitingly. I can't find the problem. The only thing that has been dome to this truck is having the battery replaced since it went dead.

Again sorry for this non-Dodge Cummins thread. Any help would be greatly apppriciated.

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with the 2000 GC body style, but I did have a 1996 GC that developed electrical gremlins over time. It started by draining the battery every once in a while, progressed to warning lights, then to systems not working at all or incorrectly, and then finally to catching on fire in a parking lot while it was turned off. During that time, we threw literally thousands in parts at that thing, traced the entire wiring system for shorts, ground problems, etc. and never could source the problem.

I don't know enough about your particular body style to tell you for sure, and you very well may just have an abs issue. But, I would give your battery cables and grounds a quick once over before I would sink any serious money in to parts.

I had trouble with a battery hold down bolt that pierced the wiring harness under the battery tray. It gave me ABS issues along with something else that escapes me at the moment. Might want to pull the battery and tray, if necessary, to check it out. Also make sure you didn't inadvertently disconnect a lug on the battery terminals.

Thanks for the responses. Removed and replced the battery and no luck. Any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

TY.

yes those have many electrical problem/defects/issues i fight my moms about every two moths for the last 3 F**** years!! i believe hers is a 96 or 97

Take it to a shop that has the good code scanner that does Chrysler specific codes. When I bought my 1996 Grand "project" the ABS light was on. The scanner was able to tell me which wheel was sending the bad signal, it said the back left, so I got a sensor from the junk yard and no light since.

Yeah, I kinda know Jeeps :) Have a 1996 Grand and a 2001 TJ, both lifted.

On the wifes 96 Grand the front tone rings had rust under them which pushed them up and wiped out the sensors. The rings pushed so far they cracked. I had to beat one out because it was floating around on the CV hub.

I just pulled the bulb to make the light go out.

Hey, thanks alot for the responses, but Ifeel like such an idiot! The light is not the ABS but the AIR BAG. Sorry guys, ant help will still be greatly appriciated. Again sorry.

I'm not sure what to tell you on the airbag light. I know on the TJ's and XJ's, the instrument panel connections get bad and can throw strange lights and gauges drop out. The easy fix is to take it out, clean up and slightly bend the prongs and put it back in. But, I've not heard it plaguing WJ's.

Again, it's likely a shop with scanner that can read Chrysler-specific codes could get the computer to tell you what it thinks is wrong.
