Not enough air

My 600 with an AFE filter cant seem to get enough air. It pulls the filter minder to 50% as it did with the stock filter. Also pukes black smoke when towing. Seems to run OK except for the fuel mileage as with you all. Completly stock except for the filter. Any ideas? 9. 2 towing and 19 empty at 62 MPH 6 spd. 4x4 410 gears. Thanks.

Disregard the filter minder. DC shipped some bad ones, do a search. How many miles fo you have on the odometer? The mileage will improve as she breaks in. My average was 15 at the start and now I am running an average of 20. That includes idle time as well as freeway. My lowest is 13 and my highest was 29. I cruise the freeway at 1900 rpm and with my 3. 73 gears that translates to about 65 mph. My 03 does not smoke however I have not put her under a load yet. My 94 smoked when a load was applied.

I run a drop in AFE 4 layer filter in my 600.

Since its install, I have not pulled the filter minder back down to the 50% area, as did with the stock unit.

This includes 3 sled pulls, where the minder did not even budge.

Have you tried a TST CR box?

I suppose 9. 2 isnt to bad pulling a 33 ft. triple slide pull trailer. I thought the filter minder might be lying as with the over head computer. I have 17000 Freeway mi on the truck. Am considering a Bullydog Box as soon as DC gets my transmission Noise figured out. Warranty you know. I have a mega force AFE filter, it sure gets dirty fast. Thanx for the input.

Aschwartz the filter minder problem has long been corrected, that's not the reason it's pulling down. It seems the AFE Proguard 7s don't flow much better than stock, how else do you explain it? There have been quite a few others with the same problem.



I have been running an Amsoil foam filter in my airbox and haven't been able to pull down the filter minder even with the Bully Box turned to Level 2 (max). Filters very well too.

My original filter minder always pulled down and the dealer replaced it. The new one does not budge even when towing my 15k fiver. I have the aFe Pro-Guard 7 Magnum Force filter setup with a TAG and like it.
