Was making breakfast this morning and kept hearing this noise, kind of sounded like a weed eater, turned out to be the horn on my 98. 5 24v. I went out and hit the horn button and it quit, came back in the house and it started up again. Hit the button it quit. So far so good. . it's been just a few minutes.

Anybody have any ideas?

TIA. . jd

Woops. . there it goes again!!

Possibly the watch spring has broken and the loose wires are grounding out. Does the horn work when you press the button? Is the airbag caution light illuminated?

I had the horn switch in my Dodge Van go bad! I would guess it is the same thing!

I went to the service dept. and they let me copy the schematic for the horn. Then I confirmed it was the switch. then to rule out clock spring I just tested the assy. out of the truck!

EBAY saved me. I had a new airpbag/ horn assy. for $20 rather than $500 from the dealer! Even the local junk yard wanted almost $300.

The worst part was the horn sounding at 1am until I could get outside and find the fuse! It went off long enough to most likely wake all the neighbors!

Thanks, guys. . couldn't find anything in my manual, could it possibly be a flaky relay? The horn honks like it should and there's no airbag warning on, and it's behaving itself right now. This happened once on my brother's '03 in the middle of the night, only he's got an airhorn. Talk about waking up the neighbors:)
