For the last week my 99 dodge diesel truck [117500 miles] has stayed in first gear longer than it needs to. It does not do it every time. Back in April on a long mountain pull my engine did get hot due to the fan not coming on. I have replaced the fan clutch. I have not had any engine overheating since then. I have a ATS TripleLok Torque Converter installed in the transmission. The day before this started, I pulled into Walmart's parking lot, and when I gave it fuel it shifted into and out of gear quickly. It did this 3 times. The truck would idle and move so I idled into a parking spot. When I got to leave I feared the same thing was going to happen, but it has not repeated it again.

low output speed sensor

Hello, I had the same problem towing home from Fla in April. At that time I figured I had a major problem with the weak link. Come to find out it gave a fault code #P0720. After installing a $25. 31 low output speed sensor the problem is corrected. The sensor is in the tail shaft housing and is external. Good luck. Rob
