Saw a guy at one of our local stores and we both gave the Ram/Cummins nod as we passed each other in the parking lot and ended up parking not to far away from each other. His truck was a 1972 or so with a twin stick trans, 3/4 ton 4x4,with one of those old school funky fiberglass sleepers and it sounded different idling . I had to ask him about his truck because it looked to be held together by duct tape and baling wire, that's where I got the model year, trans, and it was a 24 valve. So I ask about his exhaust setup,he claims its a manifold designed for boats and he tells me he is a commercial fisherman and runs twin B series in his fishing boat. He tells me that the exhaust manifold is a old spare off his boat. He said he liked the way his truck runs with this type manifold rather then what our trucks came off the line with. Is there anything to the boat exhaust manifold on a truck?

Thanks

I didn't get a chance to look under the hood. I haven't heard a B series making that kind of music. No telling what was done under the hood,if the guy went through the trouble of first installing a Perkins ? with the twin stick trans and then going with the 24 valve and keeping the same trans... He wasn't aware of our website, perhaps he will be saying hello soon. He doesn't get to my neck of the woods that often,he lives in Whitter most of the year.

We had a truck that fits the perkins description at a TDR event In pahrump at trudaeu Dodge dyno years ago Diesel Dynamics was there that year. Maybe Joe D remembers. Not many here still from that era that I can remember

I remember seeing/hearing a short video of a truck like the op described. Not long ago. Perhaps here in the TDR forum. I'm thinking it may not have been a Cummins but I remember the dual stick transmission issue.

I think you're referring to the Detroit Diesel and twin stick that was posted up a few mos. ago. It was a cool video though!

The marine manifold is water cooled and has the turbo all the way at the back end, the tujrbo would end up in the heater box if used on our trucks. So I doubt that's what he was using.

Yep, that's the one. Thanks for posting it again. I watched it carefully this time and think I understand . . . the short stick closest to driver's right knee is the four speed main transmission and the long shifter operates the dual range.

It wasn't a Dodge like the op was describing but it was a good video of general interest anyway.
