My '03 is only 14 months old but it already has 140,000 miles on it :--) . About the 100,000 mark it started smoking really bad at idle speed. I pull a 53' car-hauler once a day with an average of 25,000 lbs on it. The engine has never once given me any trouble. It sees about 3,500 miles a week as well as an oil change and fuel filter change. It has a washable air filter that gets cleaned frequently. At highway speeds there is no smoke but once it returns to an idle it smokes pretty bad..... people probably think something is wrong with it when they see it like that. The smoke will burn your eyes and throat... almost like it's burning rich. My dad has a Mack truck that does the same thing but his has well over 1,000,000 miles on it. My truck still gets extremely good mpg's... 9-11 loaded and 21 by itself. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Oh, and by the way, the engine has never lost a drop of oil or water. Any help will appreciated.

There are no codes thrown and the only power enhancements done were a straight through exhaust and washable air filter. I can't figure it out and neither can the dealership... . but they also can't figure out how I already have 140,000 on it either!!!!

Tell the dealer that it must have a bad comp. and that it should read 14,000 miles and you want that fixed along with the smoke :-laf

Since this started do u notice any abnormal noises... this almost has to be an

Injector not fully closing. The CP3 is suspect too, its not a surprise that the

dealer is stumped.

Black smoke = Not enough air, not enough fuel pressure in rail, the ECM might

be on the fritz... . ok enough stabbing in the dark.

Big H,

I posted in the 911 but I'll ask the question here.

How do you drive 328 miles per day, 7 days a week 365 days a year? I'm sore and tired just thinking about the prospect.

I'd ask your Dealer to make a bet that it's the injectors and buy a set of injectors from the Washington shop, loser to pay the bill.

The way I figure it, you will be at 1 million in 8 and 1/3 years... ... . That has got to be a record setting pace! :) Mike

How do the exhauust temps look? You might either have a bad injector. The needle could be sticking causing the fuel to dribble into the cylinder when you shut down the motor. (most likely black smoke) Or could be a sensor causing the timing to be off. (most likely white smoke)

The smoke is white 98% of the time. 328 miles a day is funny..... thats a short one-way trip. There are times when I will go to Albequerque and back and thats 1,400 miles in 23 1/2 hours..... if I take my time. The shortest distance I go is to Austin, Tx and back to Waco, that's only 200 miles round trip. I average anywhere from 800 to 900 miles a day.

I know you all are wondering about the miles on my truck, but my boss' had 468,000 on it and it was only a 2001... . it now resides a wrecking yard after he totaled it.

I believe you. I just can't imagine driving that much with all the idiots on the road. I'd be half crazy half mad at the end of the day.

White smoke is some kind of unburnt fuel. Usually from timing being retarded. Have they done any kind of compression test? Could be a cylinder bleeding down also.

How is your truck equipped?

I'd like to see your Sig. You are major overloaded. I'd like to see how your truck is equipped because it sure is working if it's holding together with that type of loading.
