He calls me today to ask about financing and says to me "I sure hope I ordered this thing correctly, if it's wrong don't hold it against me as I'm new and just getting my feet wet"... ..... I said, "and if it's wrong who should I hold it against?". He didn't have an answer but said... . "we'll just hope it's correct".

Now I'm worried

I know what you mean Ray Im worried to. What if one option gets left out,or two,or three... What am I going to do:eek:  I went over this time and again with the manager to make sure the order was correct! We all have waited a while for these trucks I just hope there right... ...

Went through the same worries. Like others, I double-checked the list, both at the dealer and again using their printout at home. I also made it clear that while there were some minor things I didn't care that much about (as long as price didn't go up), there were others that if it wasn't right, I would not be accepting delivery on the truck.

On mine, everything was right. :) (Thanks, Hagan's Dodge, Morrilton AR)

If you don't have a print-out for your truck off their computerized ordering system, you should be able to get one now and you can check the order yourself to be sure.

It's big dollars; get what you want!

Ray,

Doesn't that give you a warm, fuzzy feeling? :D I'm dealing with the Fleet Manager at my dealer, so I'm hoping he knows how to order a truck. Besides, he just re-entered the May order that Dodge had rejected for my 2001. We'll see, I guess.

Well, the "Bright" side is...

You don't have to accept it if it's not right. Get your deposite back and go down the road or make them order another.

Don't accept "dealer installed" accessories to fix their mistake (unless its a true bolt on). And remember, if you're not sure about the complexity of the accessories, ask here! If your dealer can't prder the truck right, he sure won't know about details like that!

Ray, If it comes in wrong get your down money back and go to Kellog at Dave Smith Motors , chances are they have just what you want sitting on the lot... ... . Kevin

It was Dave Smith

Whitmore,

My dealership is Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg Idaho. And the reason I ordered is because they didn't have "exactly" what I wanted on the lot and I figure if I'm spending in the neighborhood of $35,000 I want it to be exactly what I want. So, I hope the truck that's scheduled to be in next week is correct. I'd hate to have to wait another couple months for a new truck but I'm willing to do that if this one isn't what I ordered. I did get a copy of the invoice and it appears to have everything I ordered.

Keeping my fingers crossed,

Ray... .

I had the same concerns while awaiting my truck.

My dealer told me he had never heard of a factory order not showing up exactly as ordered. But, when it showed up I spent almost an hour checking it out to match the build sheet, and also used the pre-delivery checklist from Dave Fritz before I signed the final papers. The dealer said he'd never seen anyone as anal as me:D

If you're interested in the checklist you can find it at www.dodgeram.org

Not every item applies to the newer trucks, but it's a method to keep you focused, while drooling over your new baby.

Good luck and enjoy.

Don't want to bad mouth Dave Smith Motors

I will say my salesman leaves a bit to be desired however every other person at Dave Smith Motors has been very helpful and knowledgeable. I've talked to the sales manager and several other in the sales department along with accessories and the financing dept and they are all top notch so far. Just didn't want people to think I was disappointed with the dealership. I would not recommend my salesman to anyone however.

Two things;

1) Having an old hand does not mean he knows what he is talking about. The sales guy I delt with had been selling Dodge trucks at the same dealership for 16 years. Sounded like he really knew them.

a) He assured me that ordering the diesel automatically ment I would get the HD transfer case.

b) I had heard about "new" towing mirrors; he said not abailable for 6 months. A couple weeks befor my truck got here (Feb. 2000) I learned other already had them. To reorder would delay my truck, soooo #@$%#@ , I accepted it.

2) Dealer install vs Factory

My son in law manages an auto/stereo/access. store. He has two vans on the road all the time doing installs of power doors and windows, air cond. cruise control, etc, as well as radio work for dealers-including Dodge trucks. The stuff they use is mostly same brand and identical to factory, but they can do it cheaper after the vehicle is delivered to the lot, than the dealer can order from the factory. Not trying to prove any point, just found it very interesting when I learned about it. This is more than half of his stores business.
