Absolutely NOTHING is more frustrating or IRRITATING!! than trying to carry on a phone conversation with someone who is from another country TRYING or ATTEMPTING to speak English.

Called State Department for information on travel to another country, after attempting to converse with a lady (?) from Jamaica for 5 min. I'd had enough and asked to speak with someone else that could speak more clearly? WOW!! she started to read me the riot act. So I asked her if this made sense to her and asked her my questions in German. She had a problem understanding and when I said see how irritating that is when your the one who can't understand? Finally an ENGLISH SPEAKING AMERICAN came on the phone and my questions were answered in minutes.

It’s especially irritating when someone with limited English skills is put in a position of communications and information. We can thank affirmative action for this foolishness. The stupidity of our govt knows no bounds.

I feel your pain Big, you are told by the recording to push 1 for English and then you get someone on the other end who speaks very broken English as a 2nd or 3rd language and is not good at speaking any of them.

Around here, you come across all kinda dialects. After a while you get good at dealing with them. A priest at church is from India. His dialect is spot on with Apu in “The Simpson’s”. He does his job well and doesn’t foul up the Mass too much, and he is well liked. After knowing him for years, we’re at a table at the Christmas fair with friends who I always thought were of German descent, and here comes Fr. Joe and greets us, and them IN GERMAN! I found out then this Indian man speaks 7 languages. Just imagine Apu speaking German.

My daughter, who lives in another state, went to a walmart the other day to get some stamps as well as a few other things. Cashier did not speak english. My daughter could not get her to understand that she wanted stamps. My daughter asked for someone to come and help that spoke english, no one came. She asked for a manager and no one came. She didnt get her stamps

My job has a requirement to understand and be understood in English.

So did mine for most of the 27 years hauling Hazmat. Being able to read and understand and be understood ALL IN ENGLISH

towards the end of my driving career some body must have forgot to check the Carrier Trucking companies.
