At work we have an '85 Dodge 1 ton van, which has been converted over to a 4-wheel drive unit. I just got done rebuilding the 360 engine and installing a rebuilt transmission. While I was at it I took the NP 208 transfer case apart to clean it up, and replace a bearing and the seals. When I got it off the fan I noticed an open hole in the top of the tail housing. I assumed it was a vent so while I had it apart I threaded it and installed a brass fitting so I could put a hose on it and keep dirt out. Well the thing pukes ATF out and makes a mess under there. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I need to do or what is supposed to go in this hole? It let oil out before I worked on it too I think because the T-case was real dirty. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Never mind. I just installed a longer hose up to the front of the van so that should fix it. It can bubble and vent all it wants this way without making a mess I think.
