I have the dynatrac front hubs and a few days ago my "serv 4x4" light came on and I cannot get the truck into four wheel drive. I am often using 4 Hi and 4LO for work in the outback. I suspect it might be a bad sensor or plug gunked up with dirt but if it is something more serious and I need a new transfer case I am wondering if anyone has changed there NP 273 electronic shift with the NP271 manual shift transfer case? I'd love to ditch the electronic gremlins, especially since I am often in the middle of no where working. Thank you.

The NV273 and 271 are physically the same dimensions, except for the motor assembly on the back of the 273.

Swapping them would require some interior trim pieces (do you have an automatic or standard?), plus the various bits of linkage.

But I think all-in-all it's quite doable.

When i had my transfer out on the ground to do the leaky rear trans seal I also had the 4x4 elect shift motor out and it is only a 1" slot on the transfer side and the motor side is like a big slotted screwdriver.
It would be fairly easy to fab up a PTO cable to work with it.
In an emergency I now know that I can shift the transfer with a large screwdriver.
