I ask this question because on the 99 2500 4x4 I recently bought Im going to replace the transfer case and wonder if it would be better to put a DHD unit it or would that require driveshaft modifications? Would their really be any benefit to doind that? Im changing out the Tcase because the P. O. put one in it out of a newer dodge im told and the shift pattern is different.

I believe it does require driveshaft mods. The HD transfer case is definitely stronger though.

I've never swapped on though, so hopefully someone with some experience will chime in.

I climbed under the truck and found the tag on the transfer case it actualy had a 241HD in it, and the email build sheet I got from Dodge confirms it shipped with a HD transfer case:confused: The only issue I can tell now is that appears to possibly have a transfer case (replaced by previous owner) from a newer truck as the selector positions arent in the same place, its like its backwards??? Is this possible?

If the tag on the t-case identifies it as an NP241DHD, why would you doubt it? Why would anyone change that tag? A DLD and and a DHD share the same shifter pattern, too. It is the most common pattern for years, and is the same as an NP205 and a NP208, to name just two.

I'm still not clear on your t-case shifter pattern, either.

Going from the dash back towards the seat, it should be 2H-4H-N-4Lo. Is yours different?

Ok maybe this isnt a problem. That appears to be the way this one is set up in which case the diagram on the top of the shift lever knob isnt correct. In my 2000 dually it is as follows from dash to seat. 4L-N-2H-4H. What gives? is their a difference between those 2 years? They both have the NP21HD. Forgive my insanity but these are my 1st 2 Dodges and my 1st 4x4s

******Ok I just looked under the sunvisor and the decal on it even shows the pattern as being the same as my 2000 dually 4L-N-2H-4H from dash to seat, so something is not right with the transfer case that is in it, thats what im trying to figure out************
