Thought some of you that enjoy a trip to the boonies now and then might be impressed with this...

This would be in the area of the state where American Loggers work.

My Wife and her sister are packing this morning for their annual two week trip to Nugent's Camps for spring cleaning and painting.

The man that owns our dealership purchased these camps about five years ago and has made them his passion. They were constructed in 1936 when a husband and wife poled a barge up that huge lake and stopped at a spot that Patty (the wife) picked out.

Built these sporting camps that still stand and operate to this day.

They and a building called the farmhouse up the lake that goes with it are the only structures on that whole, huge lake.

Being located in a state park requires that very strict rules are followed such as accessibility, keeping the building and grounds in their original state, etc.

No motorized vehicles (cars, pick-ups, four wheelers) are allowed in but the state did allow a 2 mile trail built from a parking lot to the cabins for the purpose of transporting customers and supplies by 4 wheelers and Utes when the lake does not allow for travel and there is no snow for the snowmobiles. Must be gated when not in use.

Every single supply that goes in is transported by boat, plane or four wheeler including the 100lb propane cylinders. During a cold winter they are hauling propane about every other day. Not to mention the food, firewood and every thing you can think of that 20-30 people might need in the run of a day.

Quite an operation to say the least. They do have gensets that can be run 3-4 hours a day, other than that it all runs on wood and propane. They do have a computer and satellite internet, that is how reservations are made. Also can call out on Skype while the genset is running but you have to adjust for the delay in transmission so makes for a chopped up conversation.

Here is the link, please take a look at the 35 pictures and the history, I find it fascinating. Thought I would share.

The Thornton Family Welcomes you to Nugent's Camps

If you have any questions, ask away.

Mike. :)
