I want to change to a synthetic lube in my NV 5600 but I'm a little confused by some of the posts regarding fill capacity. My factory manual says 9. 5 pints but I have seen overfill capacities as high as 12 quarts. That's 24 pints! What's right?

Pennzoil Synchromesh Gear Oil is the proper and recommended fluid for the G-56, not synthetic.

Standard Transmission and Gear in Fort Worth, TX, TDR advertiser and premier rebuilder of that and other manual transmissions recommends overfilling by one quart if I remember correctly.

I just did mine this last weekend used 6 bottles of pennz syncro this time have used 6-7 quarts that last few changes. . I took apart the shift tower this time to put fluid back in. tired of straining the neck. the extra quart helps lube the main shaft bearing. if you had coolers on it this would require more fluid + the extra quart. so i could see some people trying 8-9 quarts.

That is the correct amount for your application. Amounts to 5 QTS. My MY2003 with the NV-5600 was filled with the Amsoill "Manual lSyncromesh Transmission Fluid", which meets the Chrysler MS-9224 and MS-9417 Specs. is what I used, and the truck now has just over 100,000 miles with NO problems what soever. It was filled to the exact amount called by the Owners manual.

on the older 5600 compared to the later 5600 03-05. werent the cases for those years better made and had better oiling due to the shape of the cases compared to the early 2000-2002 5600 cases. this may be why you hear more people talk of adding more? due to design of the older?

I currently have 178k miles on my 5600 100k miles on pennz, about 50k on redline mtl. and now back to pennz. so I really dont know they have all had same shift quality just now I can get pennz synchro alot cheaper. about 5. 25 a quart.

NO SYNTHECTIC? wish i had known that 359,000 mi ago,i would have never used that royal pyrple syncromax.

fill mine 7. 5qts
