SM glad to hear your noise cleared up. Mine's been totally quiet since I picked it up 3 weeks ago, however the coldest night has been 35-40F. Hopefully your noise was more break-in related than cold related.

When my transmission breaks in I'm switching over to Redline syntetic lube (Redline MTL). Great stuff for the 6-speed. Ran it in my 2001 with excellent results.

I've got Red line 5w-30 in my transmission and the +4 auto transmission (for Chrysler) goop in my xfer case. It's working great.

Isn't the MTL more like 90w? From all the info Ive gotten that'a little thick.

No the Redline MTL is around 30 weight. IMO it's about the best thing to put in the 6-speed, better choice than regular 5W30 syn engine oil, since MTL is designed for gears/transmissions and is the correct weight.

When my NV 5600 failed it was -47F and I was driving down the highway for over an hour. 2001 ETH with 55,000 miles.

First thing they checked was what fluid was in it. This held up the repair/warranty til the results came back. They never told me this til I picked up the truck. I had the stock stuff.

I wonder if they were just looking for viscosity or do they have some signature additive that shows up in an analysis?

-47 is brutal! Can you get any heat out of the Cummins at that temp?

Dat be ME!

Hello Vaughn... how are you?

What the dealer said was DC wanted the fluids checked... and that was it.

They never said what for or why.

They did not tell me what was taking so long to get the trans repaired or replaced until after the results came back.

I knew where the change up sets of gears were and how many NV 5600 trans were available and they kept telling me they are waiting for DC's answer about parts, not about the fluid test.

Then once the test came back good, they informed me what took so long. Kinda felt like I was being lied to afterwards in regards to the parts story, especially since I knew what was available.

All is well now.

so far. :(
