My 04 now has about 90K on it and we pull a heavy trailer with it about 90% of the time... ...

We're getting a little clutch chatter right now... . and we need to pull it down to check the brakes... . but here's the problem that's got me worried...

I thought we were going to have some u-joint problems with it... but the noise that I thought was u-joints starting to give me problems seems to be rumble in 1st and 2nd gear... don't get it in other gears and don't have a problem until the clutch is engaged and you pour on the coal...

I don't bomb the work trucks..... they work too hard. . Its like a u-joint rumble but we only get it in 1st and second... its smooth in all the rest of the gears... . We've put the spacer in the driveline and it didn't help... its been getting worse over the past 10K miles or so. . and need to get it addressed... ... everything but the engine is now out of warranty so I'm wondering if any of you have had an issue like this... .

Jim,has the shift between 1to2 changed?Easier, harder, more noise ,less noise. Has this truck had different drivers over the 90,000 mi. I have an 04 that pulls heavy and have had a very slight vibration in 1 and 2 when pulling heavy since new, doesn't do it when empty. With 25,000mi on the truck it has not changed.

To me the shift between 1 and 2 hasn't changed..... but the vibration has been getting worse..... The clutch now chatters... it has to be glazed over... . sitting on a hill with 20K behind you and you have to pull away... even with 4:10's its not as low as it could be... . but once the clutch hooks up the vibration starts untill I clear about 1500 rpm... .

I like to start the truck with much fuel... sometimes no fuel and once the clutch is hooked up I slowly add the power... . no reason to jam the clutch each time I take off... I'm in Vegas now for 6 days of meetings, and business without the trailer and I'm sure it will be fine... .

I would have to go with the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel setup,1st gear is a pretty low ratio when considering a 20 ton load, those are the parts that take the beating.
