I just installed my transmission temp probe from my Juice. I am getting ready to take a trip to Seattle from Calif. My question is What is the normal operating range for temp. If anybody knows.

Thanks

Hi Gary thanks for responding. I Just wanted to say I have read alot of your threads, and actually taken alot of your advice. Like relocating the breather bottle. I just ordered a Franz bypass filter. Just wanted to say thanks for the information you have posted.

Anyway back to your question. I installed it into the PTO cover on the driver's side, by drilling a hole and welding a pipe fitting to the cover.

On my way to Seattle I will be hauling a fairly light load in the bed of my truck I am guessing about 1000-1500lbs. But anyway I will keep track of my temps and post them.

160 to 170,usually tracks pretty close to my rear diff/with Mag-hytec and about 20-30 lower than the engine oil. Pulling the 11k-fiver on mostly flat it runs at 190-200. Probe is in the "fastcooler"(one only cause i have a "QUAD 4x4" filter on the other side)Hope this helps;););) DW

Well I made my trip and here are the results. It would appear that the temp is directly related to ambient air temp. On the way up I drove mostly at night. With the ambient temp running around 55-60 degrees trans temp would be about 135-140. With ambient in the 70's it would run around 145-150. On my way back I drove mostly during the day When I got back into calif where the ambient was running in the upper 90's the trans temp would run in the 160's to 170's depening on wether or not I was surface streets or highway. Also I would notice that whenever I would stop at a rest area or for fuel the trans temp would jump up about 15 -20 degrees untill I started moving again.
