Installed Pacbrake - Air leak somewhere

do not want to start a oil war!. i would like info on trans oil for the nv 5600. would like to use an after market oil to get smoother shifting and improved cooling/performance. oil products used and how they work. thanks in advance for the help.

There is a thread on this going on right now called 'might have found a fix for hard shifting. ' Also FYI I am using Redline MTL in my transmission and it shifts better. Only 2K miles with it so no long term endorsements.

There are no other approved transmission fluids other than Mopars version which I believe is made by Texaco. A lot of people run Amsoil synthetic 5W30 engine oil with very good results and improved shifting qualities. I am sure they will chime in shortly... . CJ

I have used Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 HDD in my NV-5600 for close to 50,000 miles. In my experience it shifts better under all temperature conditions. TDR Member Yogi Bear has used this lube in his NV-5600 for well over 100,000 miles.

I am going to try Redline MTL this summer so I can make a comparison.

nv 5600 trans oil

thanks for the information. sometimes the thing shifts very smooth and sometimes is shifts much harder. no one thing seems to affect it, temp/eng rmp/warmed up or cold. will check look into these oils. thanks again.

At 2000 miles I switched to Redline MTL synthetic. Much improved. I used amsoil products for years but couldnt bring myself to put engine oil in the trans. The MTL is specificly designed for syncromesh transmissions.

Anybody use the Redline MTL synthetic for 100,000 or more miles with no problems? I'm not saying without drains and refills, just used this lube for over 100K miles in the 6 speed and no problems? Thanks

One thing I noticed on my six speed - It makes a difference if I do not completely push the clutch pedal to the floor. Unless it's all the way down the shifting is not smooth. Just a thought...

Dane I have noticed the same thing with mine. I'm getting better now that I have been driving it 3 months but I still have a brain fart every once in a while, or just get lazy :{ I noticed bring my seat one notch closer helped.

clutch pedal to the floor.

thanks for the ideas. concerning the clutch pedal to the floor. yes. the carpet is worn away from the pedal. i have found some reports of the hyd sys having internal failures that can not be detected through visual inspection. short of that i am at a loss. thanks again.

The Pennzoil pointed to above DOES clearly state it meets DC spec MS-9224...

I guess THEY use a label "big enough" to get all the specs printed on... :p ;) :D

(sorry Wayne - the Devil MADE me do it... )

Most of the time I have found that if something walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it ends up being a duck. I have also found that if it doesn't walk like a duck and quack like a duck it isn't a duck. If you want something to be a duck bad enough you can fool yourself into thinking its a duck but it will drive you quackers. Now this sounds profound and I now need to find something to apply this too. By the way, what was this thread about??? Oh I remember Duck Butter is the secret ingredient that we need to add to the 6 speed, for easy shifting :p Do any of these have Duck Butter in them?

I stopped at the dealer yesterday, and Dodge now specs the same lube in the NV3500, NV4500, and NV5600. The parts guy showed me a bottle of the stuff. $16. 00 / qt. Thanks very much, I'll buy the Penzoil, even though I don't like their motor oil.

Yeah, I was concerned about that "3500" bit as well, but we double checked the various info the dealer had, and it's still the right stuff - and still carries the DC/NV MS-9224 spec...

Mine was only $10 per qt at the local DC dealership, I have no idea WHY the price varies so much from one dealer to anothr, but I haven't been able to locate any of the above Pennzoil stuff locally at Sams, Walmart, Kragen or Pep Boys... If I ever DO locate some, I'll buy a CASE of it to carry me for a few years...
