I just called a five star dealer to see if they had any manual transmission oil for my NV 5600 six speed. They have plenty of it at only 10. 50 a quart! I didn't know I was going to have to swing a loan to change the transmission fluid! Does anyone know of a place I can purchase a replacement oil for less money and still meet Chrysler's oil spec. for warranty requirments??? :--) While we are on the subject of oil how about a place where I can buy synthetic gear oil for the Dana 70 sure-grip rear axle?

Transmission oil for 6 spd

You can buy the lube from Texaco. It is available only in 5 gallon sizes. Five gallons from Texaco will cost less than one oil change from DC, and you will have enough left over to last a long time.

Do a search for Texaco MTX and you will find lots of information.

No matter how expensive, oil is still cheaper than transmissions, engines, differentials.

Texaco lube

My transmission has a warning stickers on both PTO covers, they say the mopar and texaco lubes are the only ones that can be used that will not void the warranty. I don't know for sure if they are the same, my guess is they are.

There are plenty of quality lubricants available, but I would not want to risk losing the warranty coverage by trying something else. If you can afford a 6-speed truck you can afford the correct lube.

The Dodge bottled oil is made by Texaco, go to a petroleum dealer and order a 5 gallon pail of Texaco MTX fliud-12550. Its the only oil approved and its cheap, I think I paid around $60 for mine and its enough for along time. :D

From past posts on this issue:

1) In many areas, you can no longer get the 5 gallon pails.

2) Don't buy more than you can use in about a year or two - additives will settle out.

3) Some report better results with the 5W-30 Amsoil HDD (engine oil), others say "baloney - tried both and the Texaco fluid worked better". If you're under warranty, IMO you'd better stick with Texaco/Mopar.

4) A seach of the Texaco spec sheets shows that the same product is also sold for some GM transmissions. GM's "part" is a dollar or two cheaper, but IMO not worth the risk of dealing with an ignorant dealer who claims you didn't use the right part # because the label said "GM".

Others may feel differently, but I threw in the towel and bought from Dodge after I spent way too much of my time looking for a cheaper alternative and finding roadblocks everywhere I turned.
