On my way home with fiver in tow when there was a wop wop wop wop noise. Kind of sounded like a tire slapping every time it came around. To make it brief I found the noise coming from the transmission and only when in 6th. The noise is not there in a coast situation but increases proportiantely to the amount of torque being applied. I was only 40 miles from home so I finished the trip in 5th. I need this truck on a daily basis. If any one may know what happened I would like advice. After the last edition of TDR and Joe's article on this transmission I am leaning towards a replacement rather than trying to fix as I do not have access to a repair shop in my area. I have used Redline MTL since the first oil change and change oil every year. There were metal pieces in the oil at the first change but has been clean since. I have also always overfilled the oil. TIA

Sounds somewhat familiar... I've been using Blumenthals out of OKC for my Dodges transmissions. they seem to have a better knowledge of them then others... IMO. Expect $3k US for the trans plus shipping, labor, etc. If you get someone to fix it for less, I'd like to know! Good luck

I had one rebuilt by Standard Transmission in Ft. Worth, TX a little over three years ago. They are a TDR advertiser and did a great job at a fair price for me.

Standard disassembled and cleaned my transmission, invited me back to their clean room, and showed me the worn parts. They only charged me for the worn parts that needed replacement, not a complete rebuild.

My total bill at that time was only a little over $2000 for labor to remove the transmisison from the truck, rebuild it, and reinstall it with a complete new clutch assembly.

I would call and talk to Blumenthal and Standard.

One of our customers, PTO sales, they have a store in Vegas off of Craig Rd... . used to stock this transmission... as I remember it was around $1800-2200 exchange...

They are part of the Crane Carrier Group, very large company usually doing mostly class 5 and above... . they used to have their own gear shop... I've met there gear man in the Phoenix store... . When a guy can put 3-4 different transmissions on the same bench waiting for parts and assemble them by knowing what part fits what transmission and where... he's a gear man... .

Just a thought.....
