When I lost my NV5600 I had to go with a Mopar Reman. It turned out good for me. It actually seemed to be better than the original. The Reman also comes with a good warranty. I would have liked one from Standard but time and distance would not allow it.

Put a new South Bend clutch in at about 180,000 miles. A little over 190,000 miles on the truck now and I am having syncro trouble with 5th gear. I can't down shift from 6th back to 5th without floating it using RPM's for the most part when the transmission is warm. 4th to 5th seems a little better but as soon as the transmission is warm forget it. RPM's is it. No noise and zero trouble with anything else or any other gear. I took it to a local shop and they just quoted me $4200 and said that it needs a complete rebuild. Said the gears are worn, etc..etc... I know how to shift as I've been driving trucks for over 20 years...CDL. Never rest my hand on the shifter, etc... I don't tow very heavy much, but I do tow a 26' enclosed Pace trailer maybe 20 times a year that probably weighs 8000lbs.

They also want something like $2200 just to put it back together with a bearing kit and new syncro's. Then I hear from a friend of a friend that the cases on the NV 5600 will stretch and I shouldn't trust a rebuild. I won't be able to shim it right. Huh? How the heck can that happen with a cast iron case I thought to myself... I'm just tired. I need the best transmission I can put back in my truck, and get this show on the road. This one worked great until now. Local shop isn't feeling right for me. I do not want to pull this transmission again for another 190,000 miles or more. I want quality if I am going to pay this kind of money, and back it up with a warranty.

Truck is a 2001 3500 4x4 QC dually 245 HO Smarty level 7, RV 275's, FASS, 4" MBRP Exhaust, South Bend Clutch, Gauges,

In addition, Standard Trans has a mod to get more oil to the sixth gear. Info about it was in the magazine about a year ago IIRC.

Sounds like your synchro's are gone.... The wrong oil will do that in a hurry, and in time, they'll all do it. I wouldn't say $4200 is too out of line for a complete rebuild, but to rebuild your own shouldn't be near that high.....

My vote is for Blumenthal's.... They make their shafts and gears with the oil holes in them. They don't manufacture all the parts in house, but a few, and most are contracted around town or in nearby Tulsa, OK.

I guess you have no issues with other gears? How's it going into 1st or 2nd at stop? Your new clutch and how it goes in if you match tips me off that perhaps it's hanging a bit. You had zero issues before the clutch job?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Ended up going with Blumenthal's. 2 year unlimited mile warranty. It sounds like they are well aware of the oiling issue and are confident they have it covered with they way they are putting them together.
