I'm not sure whats going on here but my transfer case when shifted into 4h sounds like it is going to blow. When I step on the go peddle it goes away, let off and it sounds like it's grinding. 4l seems to work fine. It seems like it's not fully engaging, this is whether I'm moving or not, clutch in or not, or on the peddle or not . I've tried everything, crawled under and check all the u-joints and everthing appears good. What do you think?

How is the fluid level/quality in the transfer case?

On the drivers side where the 4x4 shift linkage goes into the cab, has that slipped or become loose?

I didn't have a chance to look at the fluid level last night (I know, bad excuse) I had to be up at 2am for work today. The linkage looked like it has never moved. I just think it's not fully engaging. I've used my 4x4 alot and never had any problems until now. It's got 52,000 on it and had it last checked around 40 and was ok. Is there an adjustment right under the floor board?, I didn't look there. ok, I've checked the fluid, looks good. I'll have my dealer check it closer.

fluid is up to level. I pulled the cover off the shifter and everything looks ok. I put the lever in every position and check to see what kind of play I would get. One thing when I shifted to the N position the front drive shaft wouldn't rotate like it does in 2hi. Is there anything else I can check before the dealer? sorry so long, I was hoping to beat the snow and ice tonight.

Sounds like a possible shift fork failure in the t/c. Front drive shaft should turn in nuetral(jack up one front tire to be sure that the reason for the driveline not turning isn't the front axle actuator) You could also try disconnecting the shift linkage and move the linkage on the t/c by hand. Hope this helps, but sounds like time for surgery.

I went to the dealer yesturday and all is well. Aparently the motor drive on the right front axle wasn't completly pushing the collar over to engage. Don the service manager worked it himself and had me there the whole time and showed me how the whole thing works. He couldn't make it do it again (on the lift) and I felt really dumb for words. He took the motor off and tested it and it worked fine. Went out and drove it around in the snow and it is fine. All I can figure is I might have a vacume line with a pin hole in it. I'll just have to watch to see if it happens again. It's good to have a dealer like them that will walk you through and show you things to help you out. Also thanks to you guys for giving me help and advice here. TDR is the best
