I was told that it happens often, but I've never heard of one breaking. What were you doing when it broke. Explainations would help. Thanks

I was told by some guys that this was common to break a 1 1/4" input shaft, but I've posted on Here & also DTR with no responces. Anyone?

EEP dual disc 4th gear hammer down. Snap.

Here's some pics:

The dimples in the end of the shaft are from beating it out of the bearing retainer with an M. D. I. G. (Multiple Direction Impact Generator... or hammer in laymans terms:p ) and a blunt punch.

Oh, and that piston that got thrown in there is a #6. It's from from a buddy's truck. #5 and #6 melted down right before the turbo exploded. LOL.

It would probably be tough to break a 1. 25" shaft with a double disk clutch (at least with a South Bend) as Peter would rather not sell a dd with a 1. 25" shaft center section.

This is what I was looking to find out, because I just installed my SB 3250 DD with the 1. 25 shaft & Peter told me that I could even sled pull 2 or 3 times a year with it. A friend said... . you are gonna break a shaft.

I heard this too and i pulled quit a few times even draged races it with 3rd gear launches and still held , but i had to pull the transmission to get my synco replaced and up the plate load on my clutch and noticed that it had twisted some so I got the big one , all depends on what you do and how long ,

A quick, rough shockload is what will break the small shaft (and big shaft for that matter). Sledpulling generally doesn't shockload the shaft like powershifting on pavement. I posted to this on DTR too, but my 99 with small shaft held up to TST's ceramic clutch, a Haisley street twin, and a Mitchell Puller with no problems. I busted the center plate out of the EEP, with not so much as a groan from the little input shaft :)

my friend has went through 3 shafts, he doesn't sled pull or drag race. he is around the 350hp level (98 12v 0 plate, 370 inj. , 3gsk and stock turbo), he has went through 4 clutches (2 luk pro golds, a sbs con ofe and a sbc con fe). he's going to see peter sometime this week to get a dual disc and a 1-3/8 input shaft. they were all boke like Andyman said "acting a fool on the street"

Some thing else will???

I have the bigger input shaft and a sbc dd and I did a 4200rpm's and dumped the clutch in 3rd high. Did a 10 foot burn out and then lost 3rd and 4th gear:confused: . I had 1-2-5 gears. Well I snaped my new updated main shaft:{ . :{ . So u beef something up and something else will just brake... Justin
