Competition WHO's the Best Puller?

Competition Electronics for 24v ???

Just a wondering if any of you have had any internal nv4500 gear troubles. I hear that the trans will handle up to 1050ft lbs of torque. I have broken third gear now on the cluster and on the main now several times. I have also broken the improved 1 3/8" imput shaft once as well . I have been pulling for two seasons and with every engine up grade the trans internals fall out sooner. Plus a $2000. 00 twin disc clutch once a year . (pulling wear and trear) "at least I can r/r the trans and clutch on the floor in 4 hours now with all my practice:) " I have done some homework some say the nv5600 is not as strong for truckpulling and will fail sooner it does not have as high a torque rating. (also more expensive to repair) I have heard a rumor of a fella in Utah or nevada that is making hardened extreme duty gears for the nv4500? Has any one used them yet? Or know how to get a hold of this fella?

Lasty I was wondering which is better for the heavy duty pulling Automatic (built to the hill suncoast) or a Nv4500 or nv5600 ? :)

Thanks to all :)

I am curious about a couple things. when you change the input shaft are the bearing preload and clearances being adjusted? Also what is your driving technique... i. e. get chain tight and spin the tires out from under it or are you riding the clutch out to maintain traction?

Have you had any trouble with the t-case planetary?

I've got a couple theorys but I could be wrong too.

I do not mean to insult at all but just need a little more info to see if I can help any.

Im here on the ILL and WIS border.

I Do all the trans work . The Main shaft end play is kept between . 003and . 008" same for the countershaft end play. I Have built alot of auto and manuals so Im not new to the process. I use all of the steps in the factory shop book for the 01 ram application. I usually ride the clutch alittle out of the hole when pulling to prevent gear train shock load. I havent had any transfer case failures as of yet . So I guess im due :) for some .

thanks for the imput . no offence taken :)

Third gear is pretty strong, I have never broke it. Second, on the other hand... $$$$$ Same with the input shaft, has never failed.

Still running the stock 241 HD transfer case, 155,000 miles and 5 years pulling.

What clutch are you running? Tire size? rear end? driveshafts?

south bend 2850lb 12 botton ceranic twin disc. 1 3/8 " imput shaft. nv241 t case 354 ratio gear dana 80 rear 60 front . 315/75 r16 tires (35")

I have been making the truck pulls in 3rd or 4 th gear in low range depending on the track condition dry or wet I air the tires to 25lbs . ( Mostly in 3rd ) pulling a 35-40,000 lb sled. the truck weights approx 7800 lbs . I think im going to sell this truck back to stock and look for a auto one to modify . then build up a slush box and give it hell again. :) Im tired of the trany problems with the stick nv4500 and the clutch failures . I was a a mechanic at dodge for 5 years and I bought the stick to prevent the trans problems . (I do ask alot of the truck and I know that ) Now I am becomming a beliver of auto transmissions again . (when built properly) :)

Well, there is no way anything will hold up if you are running 4th with 315s and 3:54s. But that doesn't explain why 3rd is dieing. Third has always been my "safe" gear, you could trust it.

Auto

A buddy has an automatic that is rebuilt, redone, beefed up, everything, from a guy in Canada, saying that the auto trans is bullet proof is an understatement. :-laf Cost a couple of pennys though. After watching him pull and other guys around here I think auto is the only way. Maybe I am wrong but seems like the sticks put too much to the ground too quick and something has to give (i. e. drive line, transfer case etc)
