i have a 94 and have the transmission and transfercase out,and all the clutch stuff. i am putting a clutch in it ,but thats not the?i took the rear cover off the 4500 to check the 5th gear nut,and the cover was very tight and the threads had blue threadlocker on them. well yhe 5th gear nut is very tight, the whole transmission is tight no end play at all. the nut is tappered in the front and flat on the back. i was wondering should i leave it alone?or stake the treads with a chisel or put threadlocker on the threads or buy a nut with set screws?the shaft has two xxs on it in white paint. do you think its already been fixed or what?it has 252000miles on the truck. what would you do?thanks

The tailhousing bolts are install from the factory with the blue locktite. If it still had a lot of it on the bolts it probably has not been off. If the nut it tight Don't mess with it other than staking it the best you can. There should be some end play, it should be . 002 to . 006 end play main shaft and counter shaft.
