Started a self-install of gear vendor splitter. Have driveline out ok. Bolts attaching extension housing to transmission are an unknown special size. They visually appear to be either 12 point socket, or torx head. 7/16" socket just fits over head of extension housing bolt. Boltsize is inbetween #10 and #12 torx. I suspect the bolts are 12 point socket, but unsure if metric or SAE.

Before I purchase yet another socket set can anyone tell me the correct style and size for these special bolts.

Not much help here. The 99 manual does not say what it is. Torque is 30-50ft. lb. It looks like aircraft type 12 point, doubt you will find any SAE sizes on it. bg

I may, or may not be able to help. On a 4x4 the bolts that attach the aluminum adapter (between the transmission and transfer case) to the back of the transmission case have a head that requires a 12 point 10mm socket. If I'm interpreting your question right that is where you are except on a 4x2. They may well use the same bolts.
