I posted this in the 3rd gen. section but I think it is more suited here since it is a 5-speed. I put a dual disk in about 5 thousand miles ago and now it acts like 3rd gear syncro is gone. Unless I match the engine speed to the driveline speed it grinds. I know DD clutches are hard on syncros but 3rd gear is the only one that has problems. It has just gotten progressively worse and now it is a pain to pull a trailer. It only has 27000 miles but warantee is out the window. How hard and how expensive is it fix this? :(

its your DD. they take too much time to open up and there is too much mass to slow down the input shaft, (force in motion wil want to stay in motion, especially when its heavy). It may be a good idea to syncro shift with the DD instead of using the clutch. No more grinding, but you're not going to be able to race that way.

I had the same problem 2 yrs ago. It eventually got to the point where you couldn't even use 3rd. Bought upgraded trans and haven't had any problems since.

My nv4500 started this today. Grinds in third only. 4bt/nv4500/np205. Regular clutch for a big block chevy. Trans has about 2000 miles on a rebuild. It was doing fine then shifted to third and then it grinds. If I shift/drive slow it will not grind. But going through the gears and revving up, it grinds.

This happened sudden, not gradually. Does anyone have any ideas?
