Well I got tired of the Getrag and installed a NV4500 in my '93. The kit came from Quad 4X4 in Roberts MT. He had a write up in issue #21. Since mine is a 2by I had to build my own rear transmission support and mount, other than that it was a relatively easy installation and took me about 16 hours total.
I just came back from a 2000 mile trip through Northern Idaho and up to Glacier National Park in Montana and was very pleased with the entire trip. The main thing I noticed was how much quieter the NV4500 was compared to the Getrag. I felt with a solution to the 5th gear problem this was a better choise than the Getrag.
While on the way home I got stuck behind an older Chev. PU hauling a single axle 18 or 20 foot trailer - he was going 50 to 55 in a 70mph zone. When we finally got to a hill with a passing lane I dropped her into 4th and pulled out to pass him. When I got around him still in 4th I checked my gauges - 65mph, 2400rpm and 25lbs of boost. This is where I noticed that I was only listening to the sweet sound of my Cummins not the transmission as with the old Getrag.
If anyone is considering this exchange I have to say go for it.
Happy Trails
I forgot to note that I was pulling my tailer on this trip - total weight the Cummins was moving was about 10,000 lbs.

1993 250 2X4 - Banks Power Pack, BD Power Injectors, K&N Air Filter, 6 gauges and tweaked
pump. 27lbs boost unloaded.
