Need help with what oil to put back in a friends NV4500 Trans. Go with mopar? or other? I know it's 75-90 syn but who should I use?

Royal Purple, Red-line, Amsoil or there was recently a thread about some off-brand stuff that seems to work miracles. I just received an order of Redline, I hope I made the right choice.

syntorq

Use the syntorq, I used MT-90 and lost my transmission. It might have been coincidence but 145,000 with syntorq 200 mi mt90????? 50$+- from standard trans for a gal.

Might be, I have had the MT90 in there for almost 2 years towing 10K with no issues. That is about average mileage for the 4500 from what I have read. Nothing wrong with the Syntorque, as long as you don't get it from the dealer!! :-laf

I just ordered fluid from Specialty Formulations. I got their MTL-P for my transmission and their MTFGlide for my transfer case.

Stick with the Syntorque original fluid. Redline is very good stuff but it positively does NOT keep the correct shifting / synchro friction in my NV-4500. I am sure the shafts and gears are protected by the lubrication but the "start in second gear from a stop" gear selection became a real pain in the A** to get the box into second. The redline had only been in there a few thousand miles and came out very clean and smelling good. Re-Loaded the box with Syntorque when I installed the PTO filter assembly and VOILA!... went right into second gear at stops like butter. I already have my gallon of Syntorque in the garage for the change any day now. Right at about 30,000 since last done and still shifting sweet in all gears.

I do use Redline for all the other drive-line fluids and believe in its quality.

Just my personal experience... for what it's worth.
