I just changed my oil in my NV4500. I've done it before but made a mess and had trouble getting it all in. Not this time!
The secret is a quart bottle pump made to fill lower units on boats. Should cost $10 or less from any marine supply such as Boaters World. I did have to swap the Amsoil MTG into some oil bottles I cleaned out so that the pump would screw onto the bottle, but the beauty of this pump is that the adapter on the end of the hose screws right into the upper PTO cover bolt hole and allows you to put in the 4. 5 quarts Standard Transmission recommends without making a mess.
I drained it by removing the bottom PTO cover bolt on the lowest side. I also removed the top bolts on both sides, one to fill in and one to see if the oil got to that level and to also serve as a vent since the hose connection is sealed. Screw the pump hose into the bolt hole before inserting it into a bottle because it will have to turn with the hose.
I used 5 quarts and the stroke on the pump is short so get ready to pump A LOT. After filling I drained what was left in each bottle back into an Amsoil bottle and I had EXACTLY 1/2 quart left over.
Remove your hose, replace the bolts, and your done. Oo.
