I was under the truck and noticed a slight leak on the output shaft on my 2wd nv4500. How hard is it to replace the seal? What's involved in this repair? I'm debating attempting it myself or just having it done.
You can do it. Remove the drive shaft. Use a large screw driver, pry bar, etc. and pry the seal out. Inspect the yoke and if not smooth you will need to replace it and the housing bushing, which takes a special tool to replace in house. If the yoke is ok, drive the new seal in flush and reassemble.
