I'm putting a new clutch in in the next week or two and thought that while I have the transmission out I would change the lube and inspect the 5th gear. If a problem is starting with the 5th gear what should I be looking for?

there is a giant crown nut that holds it on. if its real loose then you got problems.

i think you can get a new nut from DC and i believe the common fix now is to pin it, in some fashion.

call enterprise engine and ask them what to look for.

i think you should get more feedback on this, i don't know much about this, but there is a kit from standard transmission that includes the (crown) nut mentioned previously, and a different shaft that keeps you from having problems. I know you definitely need to replace that nut, and i know if my transmission was apart, i would replace that spline (shaft) also.

I am trying to decide whether to do my clutch also (i think i would get the south bend) and replace the parts in the transmission as well. . .
